ancient history of magic by gerre ancient history of magic by gerre
after reading the seventh book, there were two things about Victoire and Fleur that I never felt entirely comfortable with:

- first: Fleur was the best witch in her year, the champion of Beauxbatons, and went to work part-time for Gringotts after her education. But in book 7 she didn't seem to have a carreer of her own, she only did the housework. Of course there is nothing at all wrong with being a housewife (so please don't yell at me), but to me Fleur didn't seem like the kind of person who would be content sitting at home.
- second: Victoire and Teddy aren't blood-related, but seeing as how Harry is Teddy's godfather and Ginny is Victoire's aunt, they do belong to the same family. When they got together in the epilogue of book 7, to me it didn't seem very romantic or sexy.

Of course there is nothing exactly wrong with these two things, but for the sake of Fleur's passionate character and Teddy and Victoire's romance, I tried to imagine a more interesting situation (which in no way contradicts what was written in the books, because I am a canon-freak =D)

So here goes: what if Fleur and Bill were just temporarily hiding in that cottage in book 7, but after the war decide to return to Egypt? Victoire would grow up in Egypt (and go to a local magical school), while Bill continues his work for Gringotts as a curse-breaker. Fleur could become a scientist, descovering ground-breaking facts about the ancient magic of the Egyptians. After sixteen years they return to England and send Victoire to Hogwarts where she meets (and falls in love with) Teddy!

So what do you think? Do you like my little attempt at fan-fiction or should I stay clear of it from now on?
This illustration is a scene where Fleur is working on location, deciphering old Egyptian frescoes, and Bill and Victoire surprise her with dinner from a local fastfood restaurant.

the characters belong to J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter-books of course.

I do think the idea of Teddy and Vicky pairing up after attending endless Weasley holiday parties together since they were embryos is creepy. It's much better, if they are going to become a couple, that they grow up apart.

And it's better still if they fall in love as teens, and then fall OUT of love the way teens usually do, and eventually end up with other people altogether. Preferrably muggles. British wizarding culture is entirely too parochial.

I like it. Though I, of course, believe in my own version a whole lot more, haha! xD
I agree Fleur would not be a complete stay-at-home mom. I believe she was simply in hiding during the war, but would continue at Gringotts after the war (and part-time after the birth of Victoire), probably as an inter-european consultant. Bill would still be apparating around the world once in a while, but be home a lot more often than he used to. And Vic would grow up to be very close with her siblings and Teddy, and after Hogwarts would work at the Department of International Magical Cooperation at the Ministry.

that is possible too of course. Let's just each believe or own version until Ms Rowling clarifies it some more :-)

I like your version better than the grew up with each other idea, definitely more realistic. The art's wonderful, I love wind and the feel of sand in the air.

That's a good idea!
I always wondered why Fleur never did bigger things in the book. If she was the best witch at Beauxbatons, why did she just get a part-time job at a bank and then have no career?

There wouldn't be any career for Fleur to have in book seven! Voldemort had control of Gringotts, remember? As for Teddy and Victoire, I imagine that they would have gotten together a lot as kids, but then got separated when Teddy went to Hogwarts at least two years before Victoire. And then got together again... only it would take them some time to come to see each other as romance potential! That make sense?

No, keep going! It sounds like an AWESOME fanfiction! :D I actually really love Fleur/Bill and Victoire/Teddy, but I do have to agree with what you mentioned about them. But it's really up to us fans to interpret their relationship since they're not the main couple. :3

These details never really occured to me but I think that you are right - especially about Fleur! Great idea, it would indeed make for good fanfiction. :)

Fleur looks prettier and prettier every time you draw her. (that's good, she's a veela after all) I also really like how she's NOT skinny. ;)

I love the background and all its detail, interesting mixture of magic and Ancient Egypt. :)

I don't think Veela would be skinny at all, I always imagined them to have the perfect curves :-). And I'm so glad you like the way I draw Fleur, she's pretty difficult to draw I think.

Oh, I like Teddy/Victoire! I imagine their relationship as a bit Harry/Ginny, like they're often around eachother, especially when they're a bit older, but it's not until the summer before the epilogue, when Victoire's going back to Hogwarts without Teddy, that they realise how much they like eachother, so he has to rush to Platform 9 3/4 to tell her before she leaves. But I like this verson too, I wouldn't imagine that they'd live permanently in Egypt, but I'd like to think that they go there a lot, maybe on long trips over the winter. I never thought about it before, but now I'm adding it to the canon in my head :D

Fleur's situation bothers me a bit too, I kind of want to scribble "and Fleur too" in the part where it says Arthur, Bill, Fred and George wouldn't be able to go to work anymore, but it is a VERY dangerous world in book seven, and Fleur being not entirely human might be at more risk than them, werewolves and goblins are being persecuted, it's probably them same for other creatures like Veela. She'd probably be classed as half-blood at least. I like to think that she was at work for a lot of the book, but by the time Harry got to Shell Cottage she'd had to give it up because of the persecution against non-humans.

Sorry, that was long! I just love discussing the books! I love the picture too :D Especailly how Fleur can manage to look casual but still wear something floaty and elegant :D

thanks for taking the time to write your comment, I love reading about people's ideas. I hadn't even considered Fleur's situation as a Veela, that would definitely be an issue during the war!
